MO FARM

The Mo River is a short stretch of 1,1 Km, combining the big Lake Salsvann to the fjord.
Lake Salsvann is a predominating element of the watercourse. The lake lies 9 metres above sea level. With a depth of 478 metres, it is the second deepest lake in northern Europe.

The size of the lake relative to water flow, results in stable waterflow in the Mo river through out the season. Flow at the outlet of the watercourse is on average 23 cubic metres per second. Even during periods of heavy rainfall, increases in water levels are usually moderate. There is always sufficient water in the river for fishing, even during dry spells. The Lake Salsvann also makes the temperature in the river low, rising from 4 degrees C in June to 15 degrees in August/ September.

Accomodation
Mo Farm is located at Salsnes in Nord-Trøndelag county,30 miles north of Namsos. Situated on the isthmus between Folla Fjord and Lake Salsvann, the farm is surrounded by open countryside and has a splendid view of the sea to the west.
The first written record is a diploma dating from about 1326. A land register for the region in 1696 shows that Mo was one of the largest estates in the entire district. By the turn of the 19th century, ardent anglers, especially from England, were frequent guests at Mo Farm. The most famous was Sir Henry Pottinger, who leased hunting and fishing rights in the Salsvann area from 1891 to 1904 for 100 pounds a year.

Today, the farm consists of a main farmhouse, a guesthouse, a fishing shed, and variety of outbuildings and storage houses. The lodge is attended to by a housekeeper and her assistants, who serve our guests excellent meals based on local food resources.

When guests are not pursuing their interests in hunting and fishing, they will find the lodge a quiet place to relax in an atmosphere reminiscent of a bygone era.

Fishing
The river has 15 pools, each are carefully described and put on a map. Mo river normally holds 6 – 8 rods, depending on the group staying at Mo Farm. Primetime will normally be from June 15. to end of August. All though most of the catch are grills, several salmon of 7 kg or more is caught every year. In addition to salmon there are considerable numbers of sea-trout in the Mo River. Most of the trout are relatively small, between 0.3 and 1 kilo. However, fish from 1-2,5 kg are caught through the season and sea-trout up to 4-5 Kilo may be caught at the beginning of the season. The beat is amongst the most prolific in Norway. In average the Mo River yield more than one salmon or sea trout per rod per day. There will normally be 2 guides for 6 anglers.

For guests staying at Mo Farm fishing periods run from Sunday at 13.00 hours until the following Saturday at 12.00 hours. 90 % of the salmon is grills and 10 % is 2 seawinter fish.

The southern riverbank is the most accessible part of the river for guests at Mo Farm. A wide path has been made, resting benches are placed along the bank for the convenience of our guests, and overgrown areas in the vicinity of the pools are kept clear to avoid problems when fly casting.

The local fisherman association administer rights to one rod post on the northern riverbank. According to agreement with Mo Farm, the angler using fishing rights belonging to the association must conduct their fishing in such a way that they do not impede fishing on the southern riverbank.
